Best Of St. Pete – Cage Brewing

Drink beer, because no great story ever started with someone eating salad…

Almost a dozen microbreweries in this city and Cage is my favorite.

When I moved here in 2013, there was not a single microbrewery in St. Pete but now in 2017 it seems like a completely different city. There are at least 8 new establishments that have opened up in the past 4 years within close proximity to downtown and even more opening up on the beach side, Clearwater, Largo and Seminole. I have been to the vast majority of these and Cage stands out simply because the amount of quality beer they put out is unparalleled.

I will usually find 2 or 3 beers at each brewery that I really enjoy but at Cage there are no bad beers. OK there are a few I’m not a huge fan of, but the vast majority of their beer selection is top notch.

Since there are a ton of breweries to choose from in St. Pete, I’m allowed to be picky. I’m not a beer connoisseur by any means but I do value a place where all the right factors come together to create a great experience. Here’s a list of the complaints about other breweries that I don’t have about Cage.

They’re too crowded.

Their bartenders aren’t personable.

Their layout is not as good as it could be.

It’s so loud you can’t have a conversation.

Their beer sucks.

OK that’s all the complaints I have but fortunately Cage doesn’t have any of these problems.

A growing trend in this hyper-connected world is to have the luxury of working from home. As a Realtor this is something I’m very familiar with. A lot of my time is spent in front of a computer responding to emails, doing research for my clients and writing blog posts. It is easy to burnout when you spend too much time working from home. Sometimes you need a change of pace to get your creative juices flowing.

Every once in a while I’ll go to coffeeshops in St. Pete to do some work during the day. This works well during the day however about once a week I get the itch to leave the house and go do some work in the evening while I enjoy a beer. Since I appreciate good beer and a relaxed environment, Cage is my go to spot.

Cage’s easy going atmosphere is perfect for me when I need to get out of the house. I’ll typically order a flight of beer which consists of 4 samples of their different beers. During the weeknight Cage is a pretty relaxed place where it’s easy to enjoy a drink and hang out listening to some easy going music. On the weekends it’s much busier but not to the point where it’s overcrowded. We take our Meetup group here at least a couple times a month. It has a great open space and a variety of games which is perfect for the atmosphere for our social meetup group environment.

Are you new to the microbrew scene in St. Pete? Cage is a great place to start to build your reference point. Whether you’re going for a meetup, on a date, or solo it’s a really welcoming and comfortable place to socialize and drink some high quality beer. Cage has enough space to host a lot of people so even when it’s busy, it’s not so busy that it’s uncomfortable. It’s the perfect place to go to avoid the heavy crowds and parking downtown on a weekend and also a friendly neighborhood bar to stop by in during the week. Cage has the recipe for success – great beer, friendly staff and an off the beaten path location that has provides the right amount of space that many other establishments don’t have.
