Best Of St. Pete – La V

A relaxing outside seating area with some great people watching

You ever have a friend who always wants to go to the same place whenever you go out to eat? That person who you suggest something new to but they’re set on going to their favorite place? My friend and business partner Ryan is that person to me. Ryan lives up in the suburbs of Seminole, so whenever he’s lucky enough to make it to Downtown St. Pete he always ALWAYS wants to eat at La V.

At first I thought he was crazy. Ryan wants to go to the same restaurant at least once a week and order the same thing. I tried to talk some sense into him and suggest we go somewhere else for a change. I tried suggesting that maybe he should try something else on the menu besides the roast pork rice dish. I tried so hard.

Inside La V. Open late nights

I tried but then one day I realized I had also caught the La V fever. Now I catch myself going at least once a week, even by myself sometimes just to get my La V fix.  Just like Ryan, I have ordered the same thing on the menu every time for at least the past 10 times I’ve been there. One time I almost deviated from my regular course but in the end I played it safe with my regular dish –  the Salmon Vermicelli.

The truth is La V is about as good as it gets for food quality relative to cost. The majority of their menu is under $15 and it’s all really tasty, freshly made meals. Now that I think about it, even unrelated to cost La V stands out as one of the absolute best places to get a high quality meal in St. Pete.

The legendary Pho

I’ve eaten at some restaurants in St. Pete where you pay 2-3x the amount for an entree and it doesn’t even compare.  I’ve also had experiences in these high class restaurants that are uncomfortable – waiters trying to up sell a $100 bottle of wine with a pretentious attitude. That scene is not for me, I prefer something much more laid back and friendly like La V.

Speaking of friendly, their staff is awesome. I noticed they do things a little differently than other restaurants. Their wait staff will take turns checking in on you to make sure everything is going well. Most restaurants typically assign you one server however it adds a different element when their whole staff stops by to check in. I also have to give a shoutout to the manager Jason who always is happy to see us stop in.

Oooh get me some of that

Let me finish this post up. I really can’t say enough good things about La V. The food, the waitstaff, the general atmosphere has proven to be a very welcome fit in Downtown St. Pete. Usually I’m home in bed by midnight when I go out drinking but if you’re a night owl, La V is open serving food until 2am on Friday & Saturday. Be sure to check it out whether you’re stopping in for lunch, dinner or late night eats.
